Fear Street: Fear Hall: The Beginning (R.L. Stine)

Image
Part One: Hope Hope wants us to know all about Ivy State College and Fear Hall, where she lives with her roommates Angel, Jasmine, and Eden. Duncan Fear donated the money to the college for it to build a dormitory in his honor. People say it's haunted, but Hope doesn't really believe the stories. While in bed one night, something wakes her up, and it turns out that it's her boyfriend Darryl. She mentions that he "saved" her back in high school from another guy but that it's a story for another time. Darryl starts talking about how he saw her out with this guy Brendan that night, but she tells him it was Angel. Angel then wakes up and says that she went out with him in one of Hope's outfits. Darryl moans about how he did something bad and thinks he killed him. There's a knock at the door, which they think is the police. After hiding Darryl in the closet, Hope answers the door and finds the girls from across the hall there. They all ...

Sweet Valley Twins #63: Poor Lila!

Image
It's time for the annual Unicorn Founding Fling, which is a big party they throw to celebrate the foundation of the club. Lila and the gals head to the mall to look for new outfits. Everyone else wants to check out the cheaper stores, but Lila remains firm on hitting the designer stores. She picks out a few sweaters and tries to pay, but the store declines her credit card. A few days later, she hears Mrs. Pervis firing their chauffeur Randall, explaining that it was a money thing. Since she now has to walk to school, Lila has a lot of time to think and she wonders if her dad is broke. Liz and Melissa McCormick started volunteering at the homeless shelter, and Lila offers to donate some clothes to the shelter. When Melissa comes over to pick up the clothes, they both overhear Lila's dad talking about how he lost a bundle. Lila also asks her dad to rent her a purple hot air balloon for the party but he says no. This convinces her that they're broke, and she g...

Ghosts of Fear Street #12: Night of the Werecat (R.L. Stine)

Image
Wendy loves cats, but her parents absolutely forbid her from having one. Luckily, her best friend Tina has a Siamese named Shal that she gets to see. While trying to work on her gymnastics, she falls, which gives this chick Nancy the chance to talk smack to her. Nancy is allergic to cats but knows that Wendy loves them and makes some crack about how she should take a lesson from them. Tina and Wendy go to some cat show and check out the vendors area. Tina warns her that her mom told her not to buy any more cat crap, but she sees a cool little shop and wanders inside. The owner, Mrs. Bast, has everything cat you can name, and she has a display of jewelry and trinkets priced at $5. Wendy finds a really cool black cat pendant with a white spot on its face. Mrs. Bast grabs it from her, says it isn't for sale, and claims that it came from her private collection. She also warns them that it will turn the wearer into a werecat. Wendy waits until she's distracted, leaves a $...

Prologue: Hailey will never forget the night that she was at Burgers Etc. and saw Robert Q meet Darlene. I'll never forget either because literally one page later, the book starts out with the same exact line. Hailey and her roommate Nell, who is some amazing gymnast, are in the restaurant with some friends when they see Robert Q. Fresh off a breakup with his yuppie girlfriend Gerrie, he's a Big Man On Campus looking for some action. When he sees the hot to trot waitress Darlene, he asks her out. Hailey thinks it's disgusting because he's a pig and Darlene can do better. A few nights later, she runs into Darlene in the bathroom of her dorm while she's there with Robert visiting a friend. Darlene is super excited about dating a rich guy and how he's so different from her old boyfriend Bo. She remembers that Hailey was nice to her at the restaurant and asks for some hair and makeup tips. Hailey invites her to her dorm room, and she and Nell gi...

The Baby-Sitters Club #89: Kristy and the Dirty Diapers

Image
It's that time of year again, time for everyone to start eighth grade again for the 780 th time. It's also time for another standoff between the Bashers and the Krushers. After the Krushhers win the very first game, this older guy named Mr. Davis comes up and introduces himself. He owns a diaper service and wants to sponsor the team. He'll give them new uniforms, equipment, the whole nine yards. After talking it over with the BSC, Kristy decides that it's the best choice for her team. Mr. Davis then sends her a box of new uniforms, but they now all say Davis Diapers. Kristy isn't happy about losing her name, but she still thinks it was a good idea. The rest of her team doesn't necessarily feel the same way. Half the players won't wear the uniforms, and Mr. Davis gets annoyed when he comes to the game and sees them wearing other stuff. At the same time, they see some activity going on in a mansion down the street. It turns out that someone b...

Fear Street Super Chiller: Cheerleaders: The New Evil (R.L. Stine)

Image
Part One: Party Time It's now been god knows how long since the evil finally left the cheerleaders alone. Corky, Kimmy, and Hannah are out for a drive when they get into an accident and Hannah goes through the windshield. The other two girls go to the hospital to see her and ask how she's doing, but her parents just burst into tears and her mom runs from the room. The next day, Corky tells her coach that the doctors got the internal bleeding under control but that she won't be out for the hospital for awhile. That totally sucks because they have some big competition coming up, which means they have to find a replacement. Corky then goes to see her boyfriend Alex who is a total asshat. She asks him for a ride to the lake, he makes a big deal out of why she wants to go, and his friend Jay pops up to do some mild flirting and be pretty much adorable. If he turns out to be evil, I'll be super sad. Alex takes her to the lake, she sees a hole in the ice, ...

Sweet Valley Twins #79: Jessica's Blind Date

Image
Jessica isn't too crazy about Aaron Dallas as of late. Not only does he wear neon shorts, which went out of style months ago, but he dares to act like a junior high school student sometimes. Gasp! When they meet up at Casey's, he orders bubblegum ice cream with sprinkles, slurps his ice cream, and wears a shirt with Donald Duck on it. The slurping puts her over the edge and she dumps him. The other Unicorns can't believe she would do something so stupid, especially with Rick Hunter's big party coming up. At the same time Elizabeth decides to run a classifieds section in the paper after having problems finding a tutor for Amy. Jessica begs and pleads for her to let her add a personal ad to the section. Her ad (Gorgeous Blond) is so popular that they run out of copies. Lila agrees to run her own ad when her boyfriend Jake forgets about their one month anniversary, and other Unicorns decide to run ads too. Before long, everyone wants their own ad in the pap...
