Give Yourself Goosebumps Special Edition #4: One Night in Payne House (R.L. Stine)

It's been awhile since I've done one of these, which is weird because they're so easy to read.

The book starts out with the reader and his/her best friend Trevor standing outside a haunted house called Payne House, which was also once the set of a popular horror movie. Trevor wants to go in and check things out, but I selected the "why would I go in there?" option. That sent to a page that basically told me to just go in and sent me back to the beginning.

We get to pick thee items from a bunch of things. I picked a baseball bat, paper/pen, and candles/matches. This was obviously a bad choice. After coming across a small dog, I try to warn my friend of what will happen. Since he's never seen the movie, he doesn't realize that the dog turns into a huge monster. I grab my bat, hit the dog multiple times, and pretty much die when he attacks back. Boom. Five minutes and the book is over.

And yes, I went back through a few different times and every time, I picked the wrong things. I checked out some of the 20 different endings in the book and none really end well. One ending has me being a ghost and killing Trevor, one has Trevor being a ghost who lured me to my death, one I fell through a rotten floor and died, and one ended with Trevor pushing me to my death. I don't think Trevor is a very good friend LOL.

Sorry that this recap is so short. I'm really not sure how to recap these books!

    I used to love these books. Night in Werewolf Woods was my favorite. Completely insane...if you have it/ever get it, I really hope you recap it :)

      It's funny because I never read these when I was a kid, but my roommie/best friend who is a few years younger than me read the crap out of them. He knows my collection so well that I'm always showing him covers at thrift stores and book sales to see which ones I have lol.

This was one of my favorite Christopher Pike books when I was younger. The whole ground glass in the hamburger thing really freaked me out and I was always eyeing the person who made my hamburgers suspiciously. I’ve read this book a few times lately and every time, go into it thinking that I don’t really like it, but then I remember that I do. Maybe because there aren’t any sci-fi elements or aliens in it! Well there are alien like things, but not like in his later books. Angela is a fairly new kid at school, who somehow gets invited to a party with all the popular kids. Her best friend Mary walks into the party, brandishing a shotgun. Without saying a word, she blows away football player Todd and cheerleader Kathy. Five seconds later, she points the gun at her own boyfriend Jim. Angela stops her by screaming and Mary retaliates by kicking her in the face. Jim, who’s basically a big pussy, runs off into the woods, with Mary hot on his tale. Angela follows and runs into Lieutenant Nguyen, who listens to what she says and then goes after Mary. Contrary to Rumors, I am Still Alive

  Well, I didn't realize so much time passed between my last post and today. Things were pretty bad there for a while. I got through COVID and then my world just fell apart. I'm hoping I can start posting again at least semi-regularly. If anyone is still out there, expect to see a new post a month.
