Kate and her older brother Brandon are moving back to their old hometown after six years. On the night he graduated from high school Brandon had a fight with his girlfriend Lucinda over flirting with other people. Lucinda threatened to go to her “special place” and he turned his back on her. Kate saw something weird in the lake and no one saw Lucinda again. Lucinda’s little brother Keith sent back a newspaper clipping, showing that the lake in town was drying up. At one point, the town moved all of its buildings and flooded the area, creating the lake. Brandon moves them back and asks Keith about Lucinda. Keith claims that no one has found anything except for an old graduation robe. They run into his old friend Holly who is excited to see him. Kate mentions that she wrote him a ton of letters, but he never wrote her back. Holly explains that she feels responsible because Lucinda wasn’t happy about her relationship with Brandon. Catherine Belmont is obsessed with her favorite soap opera, Lost River. We know this because right when the book opens, she and her best friend Liz are preparing to run across town to Anderson’s Appliances, to watch the show. I re-read it recently and I could swear there was a segment with a girl who was a singer and got hurt, but that must be another book. I even remembered her singing while sitting in the drive through lane, so maybe I’m losing my mind. All right so Prom Dress starts with Robin who’s like the perfect girl. She’s a dancer, has a great looking and rich boyfriend Tyler, loves her sister Gabby and has the best life ever! Except that she has to work for old Miss Catherine, who has a terrible scar running down the side of her face. The family doesn’t have much money and Robin’s freaking out over getting a dress for the dance club (team?)’s performance of the Charleston, plus trying to afford a prom dress. Because you know, Tyler won’t like her if she can’t afford a dress. She needs to watch that episode of Saved by t...
