Give Yourself Goosebumps Special Edition #4: One Night in Payne House (R.L. Stine)

It's been awhile since I've done one of these, which is weird because they're so easy to read. The book starts out with the reader and his/her best friend Trevor standing outside a haunted house called Payne House, which was also once the set of a popular horror movie. Trevor wants to go in and check things out, but I selected the "why would I go in there?" option. That sent to a page that basically told me to just go in and sent me back to the beginning. We get to pick thee items from a bunch of things. I picked a baseball bat, paper/pen, and candles/matches. This was obviously a bad choice. After coming across a small dog, I try to warn my friend of what will happen. Since he's never seen the movie, he doesn't realize that the dog turns into a huge monster. I grab my bat, hit the dog multiple times, and pretty much die when he attacks back. Boom. Five minutes and the book is over. And yes, I went back through a few different tim...

Martha is one of the most annoying characters I ever encountered in one of these books, but I do feel bad for her. Her dad recently married a woman named Sally who has a son the same age as Martha named Conor. Martha and her dad lived in Chicago, but Sally found a house for them out in the middle of nowhere. Since Martha is a huge weenie, she instantly freaks out over seeing shadows on the walls, a scarecrow outside in the field, and especially Conor, who nothing seems to bother. The first night she's there, she gets so freaked out because she thinks her closet door opened on its own that she sleeps with a light on. She then gets a call in the middle of the night urging her to check outside, which leads to her seeing a bloody corpse outside her window. Conor rushes in and finds out that it's just the scarecrow and decides it was probably kids playing a prank on the new people. The next day, their parents send them to town to look for picture hooks. While lo...

Steven recently decided that he wants to play in the NBA after high school and college but that he needs something to do after retiring. Since coaching sounds like a good idea, he applies for some summer program. The high school coach needs students who can coach younger players. While playing outside by himself, he decides to test himself and teach the twins. They wind up having a lot of fun, but the twins whip his ass. The next day, the Unicorn Club meets at the park near Jessica's house. Jessica tells them about playing with Steven, but no one believes she beat him, especially Janet who is back to having a big old crush on him. After seeing Bruce and some guys playing horse, Jessica walks over and asks to play. Bruce turns her down, but Aaron speaks up for her. Before long, the whole club and Liz and her friends, who were rollerblading nearby, are all cheering for her. Bruce gets so annoyed at losing to them that he takes off, and the girls play a pickup game. ...
