Fear Street: Cat (R.L. Stine)

Image
It's been awhile since I did a Fear Street recap, so enjoy! Marty is the star of the Fear Street basketball team. Along with his friends Dwayne and Barry, people call them the Three Musketeers or the Stooges. During basketball practice, he notices the stray cat that lives in the gym. Gayle, the star school reporter, did an article on it and asked someone to step up and adopt it but no one ever did. The cat streaks across the floor and almost trips someone. A few minutes later, Marty trips over the cat himself. He hurts himself bad enough that he has to miss the next game but not so bad that he can't run around with his friends. Dwayne nearly trips and falls off the bleachers, so Marty grabs him and accidentally throws the cat over the side. Gayle and her friend Riki, who Marty went out with a few times, completely freak out. Gayle accuses him of trying to hurt the cat on purpose and say he killed it before they both storm off. The next day, Marty tries to t...

Sweet Valley High #95: The Morning After

Image
While it's not really the morning after the Jungle Prom, which I desperately want to read again but have yet to find anywhere, it is the week or so after everything went down. In case you can't remember that far back, Jessica and Liz spent a bunch of time fighting over who would be prom queen. Jess then spiked her sister's punch, Liz left with Sam, they got in a car accident, and Sam died. Now Jess refuses to speak with her sister because Liz killed her boyfriend. Yeah right. Olivia actually gets a story here. She goes from worrying about Liz to feeling sad because her boyfriend left town, to feeling excited because her art teacher picked her as one of the top students in the class. Even though she's taking classes with real college students, her painting gets picked for an exhibit. Someone pays $1,000 for it on the condition that she speak about her work at this nonprofit organization. After spending way too much time getting ready, she goes to the eve...

He's wrapped in a little blanket and has a diaper bag but nothing else. Not sure what to do, she calls Kristy who immediately comes over with her grandmother. Her mom gets home in time to see everything and freak out a little. Kristy called the police, and since they only have three officers on the force, Sergeant Johnson shows up. Abby's mom flips out a little when she sees the blanket wrapped around the baby and sneaks off to talk with him. After he speaks to Abby and everyone else, he decides to just let them keep the baby until they can find his mother. Abby decides to start calling him Eli. Abby's mom clearly knows something is up. She takes a bunch of time off work, keeps acting really sneaky, and even glosses over the whole thing when her parents call. Abby investigates...

Image
It's Valentine's Day in Sweet Valley, which means it's the perfect time for all the sixth grade girls to go apeshit about finding dates and choosing the right outfits. The Boosters decide to do cheers for kids. For $2, they will do a basic cheer, but anyone gives them $4 gets a completely customized cheer. The Sixers runs lovegrams, and kids can pay extra to get help from an “expert” like Elizabeth. Liz borrows old school poetry books from the library and starts writing all these crazy and intense lovegrams. While most kids seem really uncomfortable, she promises them that Valentine's Day is the perfect time to go all out. After she and Todd double date with Amy and Ken, she starts worrying about what to get him. She finally decides to write him this crazy intense poem that sounds like something from the 17 th century and slip it into his locker. Todd gets her poem and immediately thinks it's from someone else because it's too intense even for E...

Goosebumps Hall of Horrors #1: Claws! (R.L. Stine)

Image
Claws opens with an unnamed narrator telling us that these books include some of the scariest stories imaginable and then asking Mickey to tell his tale. Mickey and his best friend Amanda get a job cat sitting for two of their teachers heading off on vacation. After the teachers leave, Amanda decides that she only wants to do the fun jobs. She'll pet the cat, play with Bella (cat's name), and maybe feed it. Mickey gets stuck scooping the litter box and handling the other crap jobs. They head over one day and find the door open. Though they try to move fast, Bella immediately escapes and runs into the street where a driver hits her. The truck driver apologizes multiple times, and when he leaves, they realize the cat is gone. While Mickey wants to call his mom for help and then call the Caplans, Amanda decides they should go to a pet store and buy a replacement. When Mickey agrees, they head to Cat Heaven, a store that sells nothing but cats. Lou, the owner, ...

Part One: Sam and his best friend Lexi won a vacation to HorrorLand, so you know this will end badly. After riding some rides, they stop by the Spear It Cafe for lunch and meet Chef Belcher. Luckily, Belcher pops up and sprays them down with hot sauce, which kills them. As they run away, he tries to lure them back with promises of a free dessert, which just makes them run faster. They find their way to a joke shop. Sam goes crazy over a cell phone candy dispenser and over a grow your own pet kit. Jonathon Chiller, the owner of the store, acts really strange. When Sam goes to pay, Chiller tells him just to pay the next time he comes.
